A California firefighter was praised for comforting a 4-year-old girl after a serious car crash near San Diego. According to KNSD, a big rig crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a vehicle carrying a mother, her two daughters (ages 4 and 6), and another adult family member.
While paramedics treated the mother and older daughter, firefighter paramedic Ryan Lopez from Heartland Fire & Rescue focused on caring for the younger girl, who had only minor injuries. News cameras captured Lopez gently holding and rocking the girl to calm her. He later gave her water and continued to comfort her, letting her rest her head on his shoulder.
The 6-year-old girl suffered a broken neck and breathing issues and was rushed to a childrenโs hospital. Their mother, who had minor injuries, accompanied her.
Lopez, a father himself, said comforting the child was a natural response. โShe just wanted to feel safe,โ he told KNSD. Humble about his role, he added, โItโs not something I seek recognition for. Any first responder would do the same.โ
Readers online praised Lopez, calling him a hero for his kindness and compassion during such a terrifying moment.
