Pam Bondi Confirmed as Attorney General in Senate Vote
The Republican-led U.S. Senate has confirmed Pam Bondi as attorney general following her nomination by former President Donald Trump. Bondi secured confirmation in a 54-46 vote after a week-long delay initiated by Senate Democrats.
The Judiciary Committee initially postponed the vote, citing a procedural rule that allows any member to request a seven-day hold on nominations. The delay prevented the committee from advancing Bondi’s nomination during its scheduled executive meeting.
A former Florida attorney general, Bondi testified before the Judiciary Committee last month, pledging to restore integrity to the Department of Justice. “The partisanship, the weaponization, will be gone. America will have one tier of justice for all,” she stated.
During the hearing, Bondi clashed with Senate Democrats, including California Senator Adam Schiff, who pressed her on potential pardons for individuals convicted in connection with the January 6th Capitol riot. The exchange underscored the political tensions surrounding her appointment.
