A video of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Maxine Waters struggling to ignite an anti-Elon Musk chant at a rally has gone viral, drawing widespread ridicule. The event reportedly took place after the Trump administration shut down USAID offices in Washington, D.C., pausing foreign aid and placing the agency under the State Department’s control.
C-SPAN indicated the rally was also in protest of Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) gaining access to Treasury payment systems. The Bureau of the Fiscal Service, which handles trillions in federal payments, was reportedly made available to DOGE to curb government waste.
Schumer’s attempted chant—starting with “We will win!” before awkwardly shifting to “We won’t win!”—fell flat, fueling online mockery. Meanwhile, Musk alleged that Treasury officials had approved payments to fraudulent or terrorist-linked entities, further fueling controversy over his involvement in federal spending oversight.
