Phil Collins, 70, has announced that his health issues are forcing him to stop performing. In a rare BBC interview, he admitted he can no longer play the drums due to physical limitations. “I can hardly grasp a stick,” Collins said, expressing disappointment that he can’t perform alongside his son, Nic, who has taken his place as Genesis’ drummer.
Collins, a Grammy-winning musician, gained fame as Genesis’ drummer and later as a soloist. The band initially postponed their 2021 “The Final Domino?” tour due to the pandemic but later resumed performances in Europe and the U.S. However, Collins revealed uncertainty about future shows, acknowledging that age and health are factors.
The musician has struggled with spinal issues for years, suffering a serious back injury in 2009. His condition worsened after a 2015 fall, leaving him with nerve damage and difficulty walking. He now relies on a cane or wheelchair.
Adding to his struggles, Collins was embroiled in a scandal with ex-wife Orianne Cevey. After secretly remarrying another man, she was evicted from their $40 million estate. A legal battle ensued, forcing Collins to sell his dream home, marking a difficult chapter in his life.
